Dr Konstam: Now that is a very promising therapy for hypertension with trials going on right now. The preliminary results are extremely encouraging in patients with pharmacologically unmanageable hypertension. The early trials show that these patients do much better. This could be a blockbuster therapy for hypertension. There is also， independent of hypertension， a significant interest in the utility of that intervention in heart failure patients because of the role of excessive sympathetic adrenergic activity in the heart failure patient. The renal sympathetic nerves which travel along the renal arteries are both afferent and efferent， impacting the adrenergic innervations of the kidneys as well as impacting on systemic sympathetic tone. Therein lies a lot of the rationale for potentially migrating that therapy to use in heart failure. There is a lot of interest in clinical investigation in that area. Discussions are certainly underway to begin trials， but there are no results available as such.

肾交感神经射频消融术对药物治疗难以控制的高血压有较好的治疗效果，其在心力衰竭治疗中的应用也成为近年来研究关注的焦点。心力衰竭患者交感肾上腺素能的活性过度增加，影响肾上腺素能神经支配和全身交感神经的张力，因而肾交感神经射频消融术对心力衰竭可能具有潜在的疗效。
