Henry R. Black

Dr. Henry R. Black: Hypertension should not be looked at in a vacuum.  In my opinion, its what we call a risk factor rather than a disease.  And I sometimes fight with my colleagues about that.  A risk factor is a characteristic, you have blue eyes I have brown ones.  I don't have any hair, and you do.  That's how we describe ourselves and our blood pressure is the same thing.

Suzanne Oparil

Dr. Suzanne Oparil: Yes the bottom line in assessing the importance of clinical trials for example, is that those that have hard outcomes, that are death, heart attack, and stroke, clearly carry more weight than studies that just look at blood pressure.

Norman Kaplan
WHO/ISH

Dr. Norman Kaplan: And I think that the Chinese people are going to have to be encouraged to reduce the likelihood of heart attack, because as life style changes in a more urban environment, then the risk factors will become even more important.
